The SDCBA is proud to present the first annual Jay Wheeler Civility Seminar:
"Be Civil, Grow Rich: The Benefits of Civility, Integrity, and Professionalism in the Practice of Law"
This program will focus on a humorous and provocative discussion of the value of civility, integrity and professionalism from the perspectives of a jurist, a scholar, and a nationally prominent trial lawyer. The panelists will discuss the role of lawyers as truth seekers and pursuers of justice, and they will give real-life examples of civility and incivility, in and out of the courtroom. The annual Jay Wheeler Civility Seminar serves to educate and promote the values embodied by the late Jay Wheeler, with a goal of inspiring higher ideals and behaviors for the profession. Risky Business: Navigating the Latest Ethical Rules - Online Seminar
The San Diego County Bar Association, working with Ahern Insurance Brokerage and XL Capital, the SDCBA’s exclusive insurance brokerage providers, designed Risky Business: Navigating the Latest Ethical Rules, to help legal professionals avoid situations that could lead to malpractice lawsuits. In this online seminar, esteemed judges and local attorneys includes Judge William McCurine, Judge Robert Trentacosta, and attorneys Bob Gerber and Ellen Peck. discuss the fundamentals of risk management and ethical conduct, in the context of an engaging five-party story about a fictional lawyer who is always getting into trouble. SDCBA President Heather Rosing and SDCBA Legal Ethics Committee Chair Wendy Patrick Mazzarella moderate the three-hour seminar. The program also includes a lesson in “Error and Omissions Insurance 101” from W. Brian Ahern.
Credit has been approved with the State Bar of California for the following participatory credits: 0.5 General and 2.5 Legal Ethics credits. SDCBA Publishes Guidelines for Effective and Professional Advocacy
The San Diego County Bar Association is proud to announce the adoption and introduction of the SDCBA’s new Guidelines for Effective and Professional Advocacy (Guidelines).
A committee of Federal, State and Appellate judges worked with a panel of attorneys to develop a best practices guide for attorney in San Diego County. Guidelines is a companion document which supplements and reflects the recently released SDCBA Attorney Code of Conduct.
Both documents were developed as part of the SDCBA’s multi-faceted 2008 Campaign on Civility, Integrity and Professionalism. Both Guidelines and the SDCBA Attorney Code of Conduct can be found here.

SDCBA Launches This Week at the Bar
On June 2, the SDCBA launched its new weekly e-newsletter, This Week at the Bar. This Week at the Bar will provide information to the SDCBA's membership regarding upcoming CLEs, volunteer opportunities, upcoming section and committee events, information about YNLD programming and more. SDCBA members will receive This Week at the Bar via email each Monday.
