The Purpose of the Foundation
The San Diego County Bar Foundation is a non-profit, charitable foundation established to improve the administration of justice and the delivery of legal services through distribution of its funds.
Grantmaking Priorities
Applications will be accepted to achieve the following:
- Promote Public understanding of the law
- Improve the administration of justice and the San Diego court system
- Promote and preserve the highest of ethical standards and quality
legal services in the profession
- Facilitate and expand the availability of legal services
- Provide for the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of historical
objects related to law
Consideration will be given to 1) requests for "seed money" (start-up) for projects, 2) projects supported by volunteer efforts of members of various Bar Associations in San Diego County and 3) special projects/needs for established organizations
Limitations
Grants will NOT be made is support of the following:
- Organizations that are not tax exempt as described
in section 509 (a) (1) and 170B (1) (a) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Religious, Political or lobbying purposes
- Organizations whose primary function is to allocate funds to other
charitable organizations or projects
- Projects outside of San Diego County
- Loans
Application Procedures
Potential applicants are encouraged to call Foundation staff to discuss their proposal prior to submission. If your project meets Foundation guidelines, an additional application form will be mailed to you.
There are two funding cycles annually with decisions generally made in June and December. Applications are due April 1st and October 1st.
