The Judges' Orientation Program for New Attorneys: A program that bridges the gap from law school to practice

Join us for the Judges' Orientation Program and take your first step toward a successful practice in San Diego County! 

Presented by state and federal court judges and the San Diego County Bar Association, this exciting series is tailored to newly admitted attorneys.  Sessions will address best practices, processes and procedures, common challenges, and how to avert problems during your early years in practice.  

The Judges' Orientation Program will take place downtown at state and federal courthouses, the San Diego County Bar Association’s Bar Center and in Carmel Valley.  You may attend individual sessions or all ten.  There is no cost to register and each session provides 1 hour of MCLE to recent admittees.  

The Judges' Orientation Program series will continue through 2011 and includes sessions by prominent judges and attorneys who are expert in their practice areas.   

Civil Cases in Superior Court kicks off Monday, December 13, 2010 from noon – 1:15 p.m. at the San Diego Superior Court - Hall of Justice.  This session features Judge Jeffrey Barton and attorneys J. Daniel Holsenback and Robbin Wofford.  Registration closed.

Criminal Cases in Superior Court will take place on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 12:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the San Diego County Superior Court, County Courthouse, Presiding Department - 3rd Floor.  This session features Judge Carolyn Caietti and attorneys Gregory McClain and Brian Funk.  Registration closed.

Court of Appeal will take place on Monday, February 28, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division One.  This session features Justice Judith McConnell, Presiding Justice, California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District; Steve Kelly, Clerk of the Court, California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District; Elaine Alexander, Executive Director, Appellate Defenders, Inc.; Michael Fish, Certified Specialist – Appellate Law, State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.  Registration closed.

Civil Cases in Federal Court will take place on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the United States District Court, Southern District of California - Courtroom 5.  This session features Judge Marilyn Huff, Judge Michael Anello and Magistrate Judge Jan Adler.  Registration closed.  

Criminal Cases in Federal Court will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the United States District Court, Southern District of California - Courtroom 1.  This session features Chief Judge Irma Gonzalez, Judge Roger Benitez & Magistrate Judge Bernard Skomal.  Registration closed.

Bankruptcy Court will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the United States Bankruptcy Court - Courtroom 1.  This session features Judge Margaret Mann; attorneys Tiffany Carroll and Ramila Fulton; and Chief Deputy Clerk of the Bankruptcy Court, Dave Grube. Registration closed. 

Probate Court will take place on Friday, June 10, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the Madge Bradley Building - Department PC-2.  This session features Judge Julia C. Kelety; Nancy Ewin, Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law; and Terri Daniel, Operations Manager, Probate Court.  Registration closed. 

Family Court will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at the Family Court -- F-3.  This session features Judge Maureen F. Hallahan and Certified Family Law Specialist, Sandra Mayberry.  Registration closed.   

Transactional Practice  will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from noon - 1:15 p.m. at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP.  This session features Douglas Gordon, Esq.; Michelle Roth, Esq.; and Kirt Shuldberg, Esq.  Moderated by Elizabeth Balfour, Esq.  Registration closed.
