Background
The Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers' Dinner Committee is looking forward to celebrating the 29h anniversary of the event. The event started in 1984 as a tribute to the late Red Boudreau and was originated to serve two purposes. One is to remember the legacy of Red Boudreau, a highly regarded trial lawyer. The other purpose is to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul, a charity that Mr. Boudreau supported throughout his life in San Diego. For over 20 years the Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers' Dinner has recognized a lawyer in private practice with a substantial body of civil litigation experience, whose word is his or her bond and who epitomizes the highest principles of civility, integrity and professionalism. This award is known as the Daniel T. Broderick III Award.
In recognition of the contributions of new attorneys (seven years or less of practice), the Committee will award the third annual Judge David R. Thompson award at the 2012 Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Event. Judge David R. Thompson was a Senior Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Nominated by President Reagan, Judge Thompson was appointed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on December 17, 1985. As an attorney and a judge, Judge Thompson was committed to serving the interests of justice. He served with distinction for 25 years and demonstrated a commitment to mentoring and educating attorneys. Judge Thompson was highly regarded by his colleagues, his clerks and by the many lawyers who appeared before him. Sadly Judge Thompson passed away in February 2011, at the age of 80. This award honors his legacy.
