In 2009, the SDCBA launched Lawyers Giving Back, a yearlong campaign to promote pro bono work, volunteerism and community service. Community Service has long-been a priority for the SDCBA, however, through this campaign the SDCBA is challenging each of its members to dedicate at least 50 hours this year to volunteer service, which mirrors the American Bar Association's recommended standard for pro bono work.
As part of this campaign, the SDCBA is creating and alerting members to a wide variety of service opportunities, from volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity "build day," to assisting distressed homeowners during the foreclosure crisis, to mentoring underprivileged young adults and working on various pro bono projects.

FaceLift is a joint project between Community HousingWorks and volunteer groups within City Heights and San Diego to clean up the Swan Canyon Neighborhood area. Thank you to all of the volunteers and Gary Eastman and Bryn Kirvin who coordinated the event for the Bar Association. The volunteers helped a family with painting and other maintenance work on their home.

Both of the SDCBA's recent Habitat for Humanity build days in Carlsbad were truly successful. Volunteers, including SDCBA volunteer coordinator and Board Member Dan Link helped San Diego Habitat for Humanity build safe, decent, affordable homes for families in need.
