YOUNG/NEW LAWYER DIVISION
The Young/New Lawyer Division (YNLD) of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA) is comprised of attorney members who have been in practice for fewer than seven (7) years. The YNLD helps bridge the gap between law school and real world legal practice by hosting events geared towards the needs and interests of young/new lawyers, in the areas of: continuing legal education, networking, mentoring, civility and community service.

Continuing Legal Education: Throughout the year, the YNLD holds a number of continuing legal education seminars that offer members introductory courses in various practice areas and feature prominent attorney and judge presenters. Seminar topics include civil litigation basics and the fundamentals of employment law, criminal law, family law, and corporate and business transactional law.
Networking: The YNLD helps to build a community among young/new lawyers by hosting networking events for members at popular venues around San Diego. This year, these networking events will also include opportunities to develop business contacts with other professional groups and make individual contacts with non-attorney professionals. The YNLD also hosts signature events for the entire SDCBA membership; past events have included Battle of the Bands, Padres Game Night and Casino Night.
Mentoring: The YNLD offers various mentoring opportunities through Networking Circles and the SDCBA Mentoring Program. The Networking Circles will place YNLD members into groups, based on practice area. These groups will provide mentoring and networking opportunities to participants. The SDCBA Mentoring Program pairs YNLD members as mentors with law students as mentees. To get involved in the YNLD Networking Circles and Mentoring Program, click here.
Communications: YNLD publications help to keep members connected and provide members with insight on both legal and non-legal issues common among the young/new lawyer community. The YNLD’s monthly e-magazine, For the Record, publishes articles written by members and includes practice tips from the judiciary. Click here to view archives of For the Record. The YNLD is also on Facebook. To join the YNLD Facebook group, please search "Young New Lawyers Division of the San Diego County Bar Association."
The YNLD also provides a Listserve for its members, allowing members to seek advice from other young/new lawyers.
Community Service: Volunteer opportunities are available to provide pro bono legal service or to work alongside other members at service projects; past community service projects have included Habitat for Humanity, FaceLift and Wills for Heroes. Click here to view volunteer opportunities.
Athletics: The YNLD coordinates softball and basketball teams for members.
