NEW LAWYER DIVISION

The New Lawyer Division (NLD) comprises all California attorney members of the San Diego County Bar Association who have been in practice fewer than seven (7) years. The NLD helps members to bridge the gap between law school and real world legal practice by hosting events geared towards the needs and interests of new lawyers.

The NLD plans and promotes continuing legal education (CLE) programs, networking events, mentoring circles, and other activities designed to support new lawyers in their career development and the practice of law, and provides opportunities for pro bono and community service.

The Division's CLE program offerings include introductory courses in various legal topics, such as labor and employment law, criminal law, family law, and corporate and business transactions. Networking events are hosted frequently, and members especially enjoy opportunities to network at the Division’s two yearly signature events, such as the nautical-themed "Come Sail Away with NLD" event and NLD’s Day at the Del Mar Races. The NLD Mentoring Circles Program provides guidance and is launched in the spring and fall of each year.

GOVERNANCE



The NLD is led by a thirteen-member Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets on a monthly basis to conduct business. Directors are elected for staggered two-year terms and elections for up to six director positions are held every fall.
