LAW IN SOCIETY: CREATING A BETTER COMMUNITY
46TH ANNUAL LAW WEEK



SAN DIEGO, CA, April 26, 2003 --
In recognition of Law Week 2003, the San Diego County Bar Association and the Lawyer Referral and Informational Service are offering a full slate of community outreach events and programs, all designed to give the public a better understanding of our legal system as well as its effect on our everyday lives.

Following is a list of scheduled activities:

Free Law at Kobey's
Saturday, April 26
7 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Free legal information will be provided by SDCBA volunteer lawyers at Kobey's SWAP Meet at the Sports Arena. Spanish interpreters will be available.

KNSD 7/39 Ask-a-Lawyer

Monday, April 28
5-8 a.m.

SDBCA volunteer lawyers field legal questions from KNSD 7/39 viewers on a variety of legal topics. Attorneys will receive calls at the NBC studios in downtown San Diego.

Unity Breakfast

Tuesday, April 29

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is scheduled speak at the breakfast, which will celebrate the diversity of San Diego lawyers. A book drive will also be held and books will be donated to Kennedy Elementary's library as well as the children's room at the Family Justice Center. Books may be new or gently used, in Spanish or English, and must be appropriate for grades K-6.

Youth Day in Court

Hall of Justice, Downtown San Diego

Students from Mission Bay, San Diego, and Madison High Schools will have the opportunity to observe proceedings in one of the county's busiest courtrooms. The participants will be given an overview of our justice system and learn the importance of the rule of law. In addition, lunch will be provided for the students.

Not Your Father's Cocktail Party

An Evening in Old Town

Meet at the historic Whaley House for an informative tour and then enjoy dinner at Old Town Mexican Café prior to attending the smash hit musical "Beehive" at the Theatre in Old Town. Ticket price includes all of the aforementioned activities as well as gratuity and tax. Drinks are not included. Tickets are limited to the first 50 people who RSVP.

Winners of the Law Week 2003 students oratorical, poster and essay competitions will also be on hand to accept their awards.
