LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HONORED
IN SDCBA'S LAW WEEK ORATORICAL CONTEST
SAN DIEGO, CA, April 7, 2003 -- Three
San Diego County high school students recently received top honors in
the annual High School Oratorical Contest
sponsored by the San Diego County Bar Association (SDBCA) and the Lawyer
Referral and Information Service (LRIS). In honor of National Law Week,
April 26 through May 3, students addressed this year's Law Week theme, "Law
in Society: Creating a Better Community."
First place winner, tenth grader Erika Palmer was awarded a $300 cash prize.
In recognition of Erika's achievements, San Pasqual High School was also presented
a $250 cash prize. Sam Reed, a senior at Rancho Buena Vista High School, took
second place and received a cash prize of $200 for his speech. Third place
honors and a $100 cash prize went to Roy Foster, an eleventh grader at Rancho
Bernardo High School.
These talented students will be recognized on Friday, May 2, during the Law
Day Luncheon at the SDCBA Bar Center. The luncheon will also be honoring the
winners of Law Week's poster and essay contests as well as the recipients of
the SDCBA's 2003 Service Awards.
The oratorical contest is just one of the
many local events held in celebration of National Law Week. San Diego judges
and attorneys participated asjudges for this year's competitions. The judging
was held on Saturday, March 29, at the Bar Center, 1333 Seventh Avenue, downtown
