The SDCBA Legal Ethics Committee is here to help.
Call the hotline if you have an ethics question or concern. A Committee member will return your call within 1 or 2 business days. Please leave a message with:
- Your name — not disclosed to the Committee
- Your Bar number
- Your phone number
- Your question
- Any context that may help the lawyer researching your question
Please pose your issue as a hypothetical, using as general and broad categories as possible.
The lawyer may direct you to some legal authorities or discuss your issues. Do not consider it legal advice or a legal opinion.
You must do your own independent research or consult a private lawyer for legal advice.
You will not have a lawyer-client relationship because of your call.
Your call is not privileged or confidential.
The lawyer will document the topic of your call. The Committee may discuss that topic at its monthly meeting — but without disclosing your identity.
If you are concerned about discussing your issue with a particular Committee member, please identify that member at the beginning of your call. That member will not participate in any discussion and another Committee member will return your call.
