On behalf of the SDCBA New Lawyer Forum, I'd like to start by giving a big thanks to @MaraWElliott and the San Diego City Attorney's Office for contributing to this edition of For the Record! The Office of the City Attorney handles a range of legal matters that impact the public, and her article this month is an opportunity for new lawyers to appreciate how your career in law can be an important public service. In addition to her leadership and distinguished career as an advocate in the San Diego legal community, Ms. Elliott became an inspiration to many when she was elected in 2016 as the first female, and first Latina, to hold the office of San Diego City Attorney. The SDCBA New Lawyer Forum is extremely grateful for this special contribution.
The NLF Executive Committee is committed to helping more new lawyers build their career by becoming civically engaged, and connected to the legal community through mentorship. One of the first steps in providing these opportunities is organizing events that are open to all members of the SDCBA, and we'd like to invite you to join us for our first event of the year: the NLF Bar Trivia Night. The date is likely going to be in late June but we have started organizing teams. If you’d like to join or organize a team and have some fun, send us a Facebook message: @SDCBAForum.
Upcoming SDCBA Events for New Lawyers
Coffee with Counsel on Immigration Law — On April 26, the Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS) is hosting another installment of Coffee with Counsel. The event is free to the public and even more can join online. The LRIS is a service offered by the SDCBA to benefit the San Diego community, and it's helping a lot of people get questions answered. Later this month they'll host what should be a hot topic: Immigration Law. Ask your questions on their Facebook Page. They're also doing another Facebook Live event, so you can catch the recap. If you practice in the area or know someone who might have questions, make sure to pass along the info for this free event offered by the SDCBA.
