Letter from the Chair of the Forum

By Ashley Peterson

Attorney at Law

Dear Colleagues,

Often I get asked why I decided to apply to become Forum Chair. Many of you may not know, but the Forum for Emerging Lawyers used to be the New Lawyers Division. I remember attending NLD events back when I was in law school and I remember that the NLD had a “signature event” they would plan each year which was a huge success. My main goal in applying for Chair of the Forum this year was to bring some new energy and enthusiasm from new lawyers, and offer a wide variety of events to encourage participation from all members. The “Barrister’s Ball” that my executive committee and I planned on August 26, 2017 is what I hope will be the Forum’s annual “signature event” from this point forward. Everyone has fond memories of attending Barristers Ball in law school (aka law school prom) so I wanted this inaugural event to have a nostalgic vibe as well as a fun masquerade theme. This event is intended to celebrate all new lawyers and the obstacles you have had to overcome to get where you are today. Whether you’re a new or seasoned attorney, or a member of the legal community at large, we hope this event will be memorable for you. If you haven’t purchased tickets yet, there’s still time, you can buy yours here. All tickets include two drinks, food, a photobooth, and DJ. We will also have a silent auction with items from Stone Brewery, Ballast Point, local restaurants and fitness studios for you to bid on and all proceeds will benefit the San Diego County Bar Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit which provides legal access to justice for those in need. Cocktail attire and masks are encouraged. We hope to see you there!!
