Letter from the Chair of the Forum

By Ashley Peterson

Attorney at Law

Dear Colleagues,

It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Chair for the Forum for Emerging Lawyers for 2017 along with my Vice Chair, Michael Olinik, and members-at-large Garett Gorlitsky and Morgan Cahill-Marsland.

The Forum was created by the San Diego County Bar Association as a stepping stone for newly barred attorneys under five years in practice. The Forum provides members with access to SDCBA programs targeted to new lawyers, and encourages networking and mentorship among fellow attorneys in San Diego. All newly barred attorneys can opt to be members of the Forum through their MySDCBA or by contacting the SDCBA’s Member Services team. As a Forum member, you will have access to the Forum listserve where you can post questions regarding a case or procedures, seek referrals from other attorneys, or find office space to rent. We encourage you to “like” and follow us on our Forum Facebook page so that you will be kept up-to-date with all of our exciting events we have planned this year. One of my goals for the Forum this year is to encourage you to find a mentor that you connect with and can rely on for guidance in your legal career. As a fourth year attorney, I am proud to admit that I have several mentors who I feel comfortable enough to regularly call to ask questions about my cases, or seek advice on my solo practice. My mentors have been invaluable both personally and professionally. The practice of law doesn’t get easier over time, but it certainly helps having people you can turn to when you are faced with uncertainty in your career. I encourage each of you to attend our networking mixers this year with this goal in mind. Our first mixer will be held on Wednesday, February 22 downtown at Tin Roof.

The new year brings exciting opportunities for Forum members and we look forward to a successful year with each of you.

Sincerely,

Ashley
