Letter from the Chair of the Forum

By Ashley Peterson

Attorney at Law

Dear Colleagues,

Summer is almost here and that means San Diego is buzzing with social events, but there is one event you won’t want to miss. I am excited to announce that the Forum for Emerging Lawyers will be throwing its inaugural Barrister's Ball “Moonlight Masquerade” on August 26 at Bella Vista Social Club and Caffé in Torrey Pines. For those of you who may remember the New Lawyers Division, every year there was a signature event planned for new lawyers which was a big success. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this signature event back into rotation with the Forum this year and we hope that you will all save the date! There will be a DJ, food, drinks, and a photobooth to look forward to. Gift baskets will be raffled off to benefit the San Diego County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the SDCBA and a nonprofit that provides legal access to those affected by poverty, abuse and discrimination in San Diego. The link for purchasing tickets will be posted soon so keep your eyes open for that.

On June 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Forum will be hosting a networking mixer with nonprofit organizations in the local community. The event will be held at Mintz Levin in the Carmel Valley area, and food and drinks will be provided. This will be a great event for new lawyers to network with nonprofits, learn about opportunities to serve on the board of directors of these nonprofits, and establish prospective client connections which may lead to pro bono and low bono legal services for these charitable organizations. It’s also a great way to get involved and give back to the San Diego community from a legal perspective. Special thanks to Forum executive committee members Mike Finstad and Chris Green for organizing this event. You can register for this event here. Tickets are $5 for members which will include drinks and light appetizers. We encourage everyone to attend.

Our “Asking for a Friend” campaign launched last month. We encourage all Forum members to submit those seemingly “stupid” questions that you need answered through the fillable form you can find here, and we will find seasoned attorneys to provide you with the answer. Some of these questions that are universally applicable to new lawyers will be featured in For the Record, our monthly newsletter. We hope you and your friends will contribute.
