2020 Call for ABA Delegates to represent the San Diego County Bar Association

The control and administration of the American Bar Association is vested in the House of Delegates, which is the policy-making body of the ABA. The House meets twice each year, at the ABA Annual and Midyear Meetings. The SDCBA is allocated two delegates to the ABA House of Delegates and is seeking to fill a two-year delegate term and a one-year delegate term. Both appointments will be made as of August 2020, with the delegates’ first meeting in that role at the ABA’s Mid-Year Meeting in February of 2021.

Inclusion is a core value of the SDCBA and we encourage members from diverse backgrounds, firms, geographic locations, and practice areas to apply. Pursuant to SDCBA policies, applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for appointment to serve as a delegate:

  • Must be a member of the American Bar Association and the SDCBA for at least 7 of the last 10 years.
  • Must have demonstrated significant leadership in the American Bar Association (i.e. held a position on an ABA Section or Standing Committee Council).
  • Preference may be given to any applicant who has experience in the ABA House of Delegates and understands the politics and workings of the ABA House of Delegates.
  • If the SDCBA is requested to co-sponsor a resolution, delegates should confer with the SDCBA’s President or Executive Director regarding the process.

The SDCBA appointments to the ABA House of Delegates are eligible for limited financial reimbursement.

If you are interested in being considered for appointment as a delegate, please fill out this form. Applications must be received by Monday, June 1 to be considered.
