Military Law Update: Changes in Legislation Surrounding the Division of Military Retirement (1.0 General Participatory Credit)

Published by San Diego County Bar Association

Summary

Join us for a dynamic panel presentation to learn about the new legislation passed in late 2016 and 2017 that drastically changes the way that Military Retirement is divided and how that impacts family law practitioners in cases involving service members. Our speakers, each with an extensive hands-on knowledge of the military, will discuss not only what the new legislation means, but also what has not yet been addressed in that legislation and possible roadblocks a practitioner may face. The presenters will offer their insight, along with practice tips and a roadmap to handling a case involving the new rules pertaining to military retirement; including the impact of the recent Supreme Court ruling in Howell v. Howell.
