San Diego has lost another legal legend. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of 2006 SDCBA President Andy Albert on February 12. Andy was a remarkable lawyer and an extraordinary Bar president. His warmth, professionalism, and altruistic spirit will be deeply missed, and our sympathies are with his family at this time. Please share your memories and anecdotes about Andy here and we will share them with his family. You can learn more about Andy and his career path in this 2005 article from San Diego Lawyer magazine.
We are fortunate to have such a close and supportive legal community in San Diego, and we are impoverished each time we lose one of our own. At the same time, we are reminded that we have been blessed with an embarrassment of riches in terms of the quality, talent, and humanity of our professional colleagues and friends. My wish for each of us is that we take time to appreciate each other and the great gifts that we have embodied in our San Diego bench and bar.

Transparency and Representation: California’s New Workplace Laws
While the headlining effect of #MeToo surely played a major part in some of the sweeping changes to harassment laws in California, the scope of the new harassment laws goes beyond gender issues. California’s new laws are designed to increase transparency and curtail abuse of power through the grant of new rights and remedies to employees, as well as divesting options for businesses to sweep issues under the rug or silence those who believe their rights were violated.
The San Diego County Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the SDCBA, is seeking qualified candidates to join their Board of Directors. Board members are asked to fundraise and serve on various committees. In 2018, the SDCBF awarded $521,000 to 24 legal service nonprofits in San Diego.
