Introduction

Welcome to 2018! Wishing everyone a very joyful, productive and fulfilling New Year! The beginning of a new year is a good time for reflection and, perhaps, reevaluation of one’s priorities and intentions. We would like to humbly suggest that 2018 be the year that you dedicate (or perhaps rededicate) yourself to enhancing civic learning in your classroom. According to a new research study by Tufts University, supporting civics education programs in K - 12 classrooms might very well save democracy itself. So, let’s teach civics in 2018!

With that objective in mind, we hope to provide you with some practical tips and strategies for incorporating civic learning in your classroom. In this edition of the Civics Education Newsletter we will review some of our favorite resources for civics education and discuss ideas for how to realistically use these resources in the classroom.
