1 Program with Ernie Dronenburg

Ernie was elected Assessor, Recorder, County Clerk (ARCC) in November 2010 and re-elected in 2014. He is the chairman of the California Assessors Association (CAA), Legislation Committee and has sat on the CAA Executive Committee. Prior to his election he was a multistate tax national partner with Deloitte LLP for 11 years. His practice was mainly in State Income Tax and Sales Tax controversy and governmental relations. For 20 years before Deloitte he was a member of the California Board of Equalization. He served as Chairman of the Board on five occasions and chairman of the Property Tax Committee. Ernie also was a member of the California Franchise Tax Board and served as its chairman. He was the president of the Federation of Tax Administrators, a national association, and the president of the Western States Association of Tax Administrators. Mr. Dronenburg was a member of the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group and was appointed by the Speaker of the House to the IRS Restructuring Commission.

The San Diego ARCC has just over 400 staff members and an annual budget of $67 million. The headquarters is located in San Diego and there are four branch offices. The Assessment division is about 250 members strong and is responsible for locating, identifying and determining an assessment value for property subject to the property tax. He is also responsible for the recording of all documents and the issuing of birth, death and marriage certificates and preforming civil marriages as the County Recorder and County Clerk.

Ernie is a graduate of San Diego State University with a BS degree in Business Administration Finance/Accounting. He did post graduate work in Economics and in Real Estate. He holds a Board of Equalization certificate as a Certified Property Tax Appraiser. He resides on a 33-acre working flower farm in the hills of Fallbrook with his wife Marilyn. They have four daughters with husbands, eight grandkids, and a sailboat.
