Join us for a presentation providing the perspective of both a family law attorney and a tax attorney, who will discuss the strategies used when negotiating a marital settlement agreement, and how much tax objectives come into play during those negotiations. Additionally, we will look at how those negotiated agreements eventually play out in front of the IRS when the tax ramifications of the agreement are called into question. One of the speakers, Kevan McLaughlin, has a case pending in the 9th Circuit addressing this issue, and he will be discussing that case, and the important policy concerns that arise from it.
