Education & Training
The San Diego County Bar Association is your home for quality legal education programs.
Each year, we offer more than 300 hours of quality programming at reduced rates for our members.
Our programs cover a broad spectrum of legal and practical issues that will help you keep up to date on your field, your practice and legal trends. Our speakers are recognized as experts in their fields. We also attract speakers who are known to audiences throughout California and nationally.
We recognize the varying needs and schedules of our members, so we make our programs available in a variety of formats:
- Live, in person, sessions conducted at the Bar Center and at locations around the County. These sessions range from 1-1.5 hour lunch programs to 3 hour evening seminars to all day Saturday events
- Live teleconferences enjoyed from the convenience of your home or office
- Web based, on demand programming that is approved for participatory CLE credit
- Downloadable, audio self-study content available for purchase
- Downloadable content from State Bar Annual Meetings and national events
Many of our members are certified as Legal Specialists and turn to the SDCBA to satisfy their annual requirements.
In addition to ongoing Continuing Legal Education, the Bar provides non-CLE training related to a variety of topics. Orientation programs focused on specific community service related programs may not provide CLE credits, but are essential to learning about organizations and groups with volunteer needs and providing quality service to the public.
Attorneys in the state of California are required to complete 25 hours of MCLE courses within their compliance period, including 4 hours of Legal Ethics, 1 hour of Competency Issues: Prevention/Detection/Treatment of Substance Abuse or Mental Illness, and 1 hour of Elimination of Bias.
The SDCBA aids attorneys in meeting their compliance requirements by providing over 300 hours of participatory and self-study CLE programming annually. The SDCBA's CLE Catalogue is comprised of live sessions, teleconferences, self-study opportunities, and web-based, on demand programming. To view and register for upcoming live programs, please review the SDCBA's calendar. For a list self-study opportunities, click here. The SDCBA creates its own web-based programs, which are available here, and also offers livestream programs via the internet.
