Supporting Immigrant Kids in Care: Screening Tools and the SIJS Process

This sponsored CLE program will discuss the intersection of immigration needs for families involved in the child welfare system and immigration relief as a necessity for meaningful permanency. This presentation will provide screening tools for attorneys to help identify children's immigration needs. Focus will be on determining if the child may qualify for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), and the steps to apply for SIJS from state court to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Panelists will discuss common issues when interviewing children about immigration status as well as lessons learned in SIJS cases. Participants will be educated and inspired to make quality legal referrals for SIJS to community immigration legal service providers.

Once you register for the program through your SDCBA profile, a link to register for the Zoom webinar will be sent in your confirmation e-mail.  (Note:  This is NOT the link to join the program – it is a dedicated, required registration link.) Click on the link to register the following information through the Zoom platform: 

1. Name
2. CA State Bar #
3. Email address (please use the same email address as Step 1) 

Once you have completed Step 2, the link to access the Zoom webinar will be displayed and you can save it to your calendar or click on it if you are registering just prior to the program to enter the Zoom program.

Note:  You cannot dial in by phone to receive credit. You must log into the program using the Zoom website or mobile application.
