Learning Objectives: 

This presentation examines the growing role of private equity (PE) in the U.S. health care system, focusing on the legal and regulatory frameworks governing PE investment in hospitals, medical groups, and health care infrastructure. Attendees will explore how PE transactions intersect with corporate practice of medicine laws and antitrust considerations. 

The program also reviews recent legislative and regulatory developments, including state and federal efforts to regulate private equity involvement in health care, as well as legal challenges brought by physicians involving corporate practice of medicine restrictions. 

The discussion is designed to equip attorneys advising health care clients with practical insights on compliance, risk mitigation, and emerging regulatory exposure.

Dr. Steve Tarzynski is a long-time health care reform activist.  He has been a practicing board certified pediatrician in Los Angeles for over 40 years. Over this period, he has been an assistant area medical director and department chair. He also taught general pediatrics for over 20 years.  He holds an MPH degree and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He practiced in Mozambique in wartime conditions 1982-84. He has served in leadership positions in numerous local, state, and national organizations working for health care reform and other issues. He is married to renowned women’s historian Kathleen Sheldon. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
