SDCBA Remains Steadfast in Its Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

(SAN DIEGO) March 26, 2025 — On January 21, 2025, the White House issued an Executive Order titled “ENDING ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION AND RESTORING MERIT-BASED OPPORTUNITY.” The Executive Order targets diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility programs in an attempt to discourage their use. 

Since the issuance of the Executive Order, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs have been under increasing pressure in both the public and private sector. Some programs have already been dismantled, and bar associations are under increased scrutiny for their own diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. 

The San Diego County Bar Association remains steadfast in its commitment to its diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs both within the organization and the legal community at large.  The SDCBA programs do not discriminate in any way on the basis of any protected class or characteristic.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion have and will continue to be part of our mission, values, and strategic plan.  We are a richer and more effective association because we ensure that voices from all walks of life are heard, considered, and equally valued.  Our goal is to foster an environment where every legal professional can flourish. We firmly believe that a diverse and inclusive profession attracts and fosters excellence.

The SDCBA’s unwavering support for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility is about ensuring our members feel like they belong to a strong, vibrant legal community. These programs have always been rooted in a desire to build access to justice and expanding opportunity, not just for certain members of society, but for every member of society.  It is the right thing to do for our members, our justice system, and the communities we serve.
