Public Position Statement
October 7, 2025
SAN DIEGO (October 7, 2025) —The San Diego County Bar Association is alarmed by recent statements encouraging the Department of Justice (DOJ) and other federal agencies to begin prosecuting political opponents. This type of conduct is designed to harass, restrict, or prohibit these public servants from performing their duties free from fear or intimidation. Agencies, such as the DOJ, are designed to work independently, while the judiciary branch is a co-equal branch of government. Weaponization of our judicial system for the express purpose of attacking political opponents should never be tolerated, regardless of political affiliation. Such conduct threatens the independence of the Bar and the rule of law. The SDCBA joins the Nation of Laws Coalition in denouncing these types of directives, and calls on everyone from across the political spectrum to stand united for the rule of law and our courts.
